1 - News-in-brief Arushi Murder Case Trial : The trial in the Arushi-Hemraj double murder case is set to begin in a CBI court in Ghaziabad on Saturday. The Supreme Court on January 9 dismissed the plea by Aarushi's parents Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar to quash criminal proceedings against them for the killings of their daughter and Hemraj in 2008.However, giving Rajesh Talwar a breather, the Supreme Court had directed that the dentist would continue to be on bail till Feb 4 when he will appear before a Ghaziabad court to face trial in the murder case of his teen daughter Aarushi.The apex court bench of Justice AK Ganguly and Justice JS Khehar passed the directions on a plea by Talwar seeking the continuation of his bail granted in 2008.SC Puts Brake on Sealing : A temporary relief was given to more than one lakh bank customers on Friday morning as the Noida Authority officials de-sealed the eleven properties, including eight banks, it had sealed on February 1. The de-sealing was done at sector 19 following a Supreme Court order which stayed the sealing process for six weeks effective January 23. Authority officials said that if, by then, all "illegal" banks have not moved out of the residential plots, it will resume sealing from March 5.Even as banks say that six weeks are not enough to shift their premises, the Authority has warned of putting an end to all unauthorized commercial establishments operating out of non-conforming areas. Allottees have also been warned to get their premises vacated and bring them to the defined land-use or face cancellation of their lease deeds. Noida Plots to Banks: In an attempt to help displaced banks tide over sealing of their premises, the Noida Authority on Friday completed the allotment process of new commercial plots following the directions of the Supreme Court. Under the scheme, the Authority allotted plots in 23 sectors across the city. However, the number of bids made by the banks was surprisingly dismal - for the 77 plots on offer to accommodate the 104 bank branches displaced by the apex court order, the banks applied merely for 38.The State Bank of India alone bid for 19 plots while Punjab & Sind Bank opted for five. Bankers attributed the same to the "exorbitant rates" of the Authority's new scheme and the cumbersome construction work that will have to take up on these plots to accommodate the displaced. CNG Supply :The supply of CNG in Noida would be affected on Sunday as Indraprastha Gas Limited is undertaking shifting work of some of its underground steel pipelines in the city on the request of Noida Authority.Apart from the CNG filling stations, supply would also remain unavailable to industrial units and commercial establishments running on natural gas, even though IGL has made alternate arrangements for supplying PNG to domestic households. Noida -worst traffic jams : The chaotic traffic in and around Film City has worsened after the Noida Authority partially closed down the entry to sector 16A, which connects Delhi to Noida sector 18 and Greater Noida, to make way for the construction of a foot overbridge (FOB).The structure will help pedestrians cross over from Film City to the multi-crore Dalit Prerna Sthal. Traffic officials say the situation will not improve until the FOB gets constructed by May and commuters will face unavoidable traffic jams.The FOB, being constructed at for almost Rs 5 crore, spans over the Dadri road and will allow pedestrians to walk from Apeejay School to the park. Noida Authority Sealinmg drive stayed : Following a stay order on the sealing drive, the commercial units operating in Noida Authority has now got a relief for one-and-a-half-month. With this, the units which were already sealed on Wednesday will also have a breather as Thursday’s Supreme Court order states that these, too, should be desealed.The order has come as a relief to the owners of these commercial entrepreneurs, who were not able to relocate their premises out residential colonies in Noida. On Wednesday, several banks which were sealed, filed a petition in the Supreme Court to get relief from sealing drive.Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) of Noida Authority, Anil Raj Kumar, said, “For the time being, we have stopped the sealing drive as per the ruling of the honourable Supreme Court. Though, we have not received the certified copy of Supreme Court order. The 11 commercial properties which were sealed in Sector 19 will be desealed on Friday from 10 am.”Noida Assembly Seat Contest : Two candidates, one from BJP and the other from Samajwadi party, today filed nomination papers from the Noida seat for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls to be held on February 28. Dr Mahesh Sharma, the chairman of the reputed Kailash Hospital here, has been fielded by BJP while SP has nominated Sunil Choudhary for the constituency. The last date for filing nominations is February 9.Govt Blood Bank ; Ambedkar Hospital, the city's first government multispecialty hospital, is going to have a full-fledged blood bank in February. This will also be the city's first government-operated blood bank and will cater to not only patients of Gautam Budh Nagar, but also Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Meerut. Hospital officials added that February 1 will see a massive blood donation camp being held at the hospital.Hospital officials say the donation camp will help gather blood that will be stored and preserved for transfusion. "It's a 100 per cent free drive that will cater to everyone in the district and greatly help in strengthening the health care in the city," said Meena Mishra, CMS, Ambedkar Hospital.Sealing begins : Noida Authority today launched the sealing drive from Sector 19 following a Supreme Court directive to stop commercial activities in residential and non-conforming areas. In view of the sealing drive, nursing homes and shops running from residential premises kept their shutters down. "The Supreme court had ordered closure of banks and commercial activity from residential and non-conforming areas. The Authority was given the responsibility for execution of the order, said Noida Authority CEO S K Dwivedi. He said the Authority "had given individal notices to banks after public notices. Today, we have started sealing drive from sector 19. It will continue till all the commercial units operating from non-conforming areas are sealed". Clean Noida? Green Noida? : The National Green Tribunal has sought the stand of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) on a plea to ban setting up of new industrial units in "critically polluted" Noida till its environment quality is improved through a "remedial action plan".A bench of justices A Suryanarayan Naidu and G K Pandey also issued notices to pollution control boards of Uttar Pradesh and Centre besides the UP State Industrial Development Corporation and sought their responses by February 23."We find substantial question relating to environment is involved in this case. Issue notice to respondents," the bench said after hearing advocate Rahul Chaudhary, who appeared for the petitioner Sanjay Agnihotri, a Noida resident.Nithari case: Court fixes Feb 14 as next date of hearing Ghaziabad : A police officer today gave his testimony before a special CBI court in one of the cases of the sensational Nithari killings of 2006. Dinesh Yadav, the then Noida police circle officer, appeared in a special CBI court and recorded his statement in connection with the murder and rape of a 14-year-old girl. Surender Koli, the main accused in the case, was present in the court. The court has fixed February 14 rpt February 14 as the next date of hearing in this case. A total of 16 cases were registered against Koli, a domestic help, after Nithari serial killings came to light in December 2006, following the discovery of human remains from a drain behind his employer Moninder Singh Pandher's house in Noida.9 Dacoits Arrested : Noida Police today has arrested nine dacoits and recovered stolen goods from them.The dacoits had committed robbery at Sector 45 last night and robbed trucks loaded with goods, Police said. The arrested dacoits - Sarfaraz, Sahib and seven others - were involved in several robbery."Two trucks, two luxury cars, two country made pistols and Rs 3.5 lakh cash were recovered from them," Superintendent of police Anant Dev said. The carmaker is now rolling out 1,000 units of the City to clear the order backlog that it has. The Brio on the Jazz though, are still at least a month away from resuming production. The Brio still has an order backlog of 6,000 orders. The bookings for the two hatchbacks are still on hold.The Noida plant has an annual capacity of 1.2 lakh units and Honda expects to resume full production by March – April 2012.Tallest Tower of North India in Noida : Real-estate major Supertech today performed ground-breaking ceremony for North India's tallest mixed-use development project here. Her family members claim she was under depression. However, no suicide note was recovered," they said, adding that the door to the room was locked from inside.More relief at 37 crossing please wait : By the end of February, traffic movement will be further decongested near the newly opened Sector 37 flyover as the Noida Authority will open the slip road in front of the petrol pump for vehicular movement. Assault on on Art and Artists : Unidentified men barged into an art gallery in Noida on Sunday and assaulted an artist for displaying nude paintings. The miscreants raised slogans against obscenity and vandalised the Espace Alternative Gallery on the Greater Noida expressway. They thrashed artist Pranava and tore down his paintings before making a quick exit.Gallery owner Nishant Sinha said: "Nearly four to five persons stormed into the gallery and shouted slogans against nudity. When artist Pranava tried to pacify them, he was thrashed and his paintings torn." Noida Doctor Duped for Rs 16 Crore> : Training to Polling Officers : To ensure that assembly polls in Gautam Budh Nagar progress seamlessly, the district administration has devised a training module for 1,000 presiding officers and as many polling officers in all booths spread across the district.Officials will be trained in aiding voters cast their ballots. The officials will be trained about election regulations, norms and processes. "In addition, training will also be given to them on using and operating EVMs," said the official. In accordance with the training facilities available with the administration, officials will be trained in nine sessions each day from February 3 to 7.Noida Mobility Plan :The authority is currently working on the extension of two Metrolines — from City Centre to NH-24 and from Botanical Garden to Kalindi Kunj. “These projects are expected to be completed in four years. Then, we will begin work on monorail,” authority chief executive officer SK Dwivedi said.The Noida Authority is also working to improve its local bus network, which — going by its rickety fleet of state-run buses — is in a shambles.Dwivedi also revealed that the existing rickety buses will be replaced by swanky ones, complete with global positioning system (GPS). "The Authority has decided to soften its stance following revised advice from our legal counsel," said Anil Raj Kumar, additional CEO, Noida. City of Flyovers and Underpasses : The newly-opened sector 37 flyover has solved two problems. Apart from reducing traffic congestion, it has also paved the way for the Noida Authority to begin a project to rid the city of clogged drains and open sewers. The move comes after repeated complaints from residents, particularly those living in sectors 29, 37 and neighbouring areas.Residents had been constantly reminding the Authority that the waste generated by construction of the flyover and underpass had blocked the main drain of sector 37 as well as those in neighbouring areas. Former Noida CEO in dock : Former Noida CEO Neera Yadav and her deputy Rajiv Kumar, facing criminal trial in land scam cases, have been directed by a special CBI court to remain present during their trial. CBI judge Shyam Lal yesterday directed the duo, who were earlier granted exemption from personal appearance, to appear in court on every hearing from now. The judge observed that their absence was adversely affecting court proceedings. The next date of hearing is January 30. "The plots are of varied sizes ranging between 82 and 450 sqm. We are offering only those plots identified as commercial in the Master Plan," he said.In Noida Extension Race- NCRPB hurdle : With construction activities in Noida Extension still in limbo, homebuyers on Wednesday filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court to support the review petition filed by the Greater Noida Authority on the October 21 verdict. The carmaker is now rolling out 1,000 units of the City to clear the order backlog that it has. The Brio on the Jazz though, are still at least a month away from resuming production. The Brio still has an order backlog of 6,000 orders. The bookings for the two hatchbacks are still on hold.The Noida plant has an annual capacity of 1.2 lakh units and Honda expects to resume full production by March – April 2012.Tallest Tower of North India in Noida : Real-estate major Supertech today performed ground-breaking ceremony for North India's tallest mixed-use development project here. "The project (at Sector-94 here) has five towers, amongst which 'Spira' would be North India's tallest mixed-use development project with 80 floors and height of 300 meters," the company's Chairman and Managing Director Supertech R K Arora said, after performing the ceremony with Joint Managing Director Sangita Arora and Director Mohit Arora.Noida girl suicide :A 19-year-old girl on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in her room at Sector 4 in Noida, police said.Poonam's body was discovered this evening by her family, who were away from the jhuggi cluster room since morning, they said."The body has been sent for post mortem. Her family members claim she was under depression. However, no suicide note was recovered," they said, adding that the door to the room was locked from inside.More relief at 37 crossing please wait : By the end of February, traffic movement will be further decongested near the newly opened Sector 37 flyover as the Noida Authority will open the slip road in front of the petrol pump for vehicular movement. At present the maintenance department of the Authority has almost completed repair work on the slip road that runs from the Master Plan III road towards Phase II and Chhalera village. Assault on on Art and Artists : Unidentified men barged into an art gallery in Noida on Sunday and assaulted an artist for displaying nude paintings. The miscreants raised slogans against obscenity and vandalised the Espace Alternative Gallery on the Greater Noida expressway. They thrashed artist Pranava and tore down his paintings before making a quick exit.Gallery owner Nishant Sinha said: "Nearly four to five persons stormed into the gallery and shouted slogans against nudity. When artist Pranava tried to pacify them, he was thrashed and his paintings torn." Noida Doctor Duped for Rs 16 Crore> : Training to Polling Officers : To ensure that assembly polls in Gautam Budh Nagar progress seamlessly, the district administration has devised a training module for 1,000 presiding officers and as many polling officers in all booths spread across the district.Officials will be trained in aiding voters cast their ballots. The officials will be trained about election regulations, norms and processes. "In addition, training will also be given to them on using and operating EVMs," said the official. In accordance with the training facilities available with the administration, officials will be trained in nine sessions each day from February 3 to 7.Noida Mobility Plan :The authority is currently working on the extension of two Metrolines — from City Centre to NH-24 and from Botanical Garden to Kalindi Kunj. “These projects are expected to be completed in four years. Then, we will begin work on monorail,” authority chief executive officer SK Dwivedi said.The Noida Authority is also working to improve its local bus network, which — going by its rickety fleet of state-run buses — is in a shambles.Dwivedi also revealed that the existing rickety buses will be replaced by swanky ones, complete with global positioning system (GPS). These buses, he said, will run on rapid transit corridors.“This will ease the perennial snarls and will also check accidents. We are formulating a special purpose vehicle to work on the upgrade,” the CEO said. No more sealing! : In a complete U-turn from its aggressive stance of sealing all premises carrying out unauthorized commercial activity in residential and non-conforming areas, the Noida Authority on Friday put a brake on its drive. The Authority, instead, has decided to continue serving notices to defaulters to stop all commercial activity with immediate effect, presently threatening only action. "The Authority has decided to soften its stance following revised advice from our legal counsel," said Anil Raj Kumar, additional CEO, Noida. City of Flyovers and Underpasses : The newly-opened sector 37 flyover has solved two problems. Apart from reducing traffic congestion, it has also paved the way for the Noida Authority to begin a project to rid the city of clogged drains and open sewers. The move comes after repeated complaints from residents, particularly those living in sectors 29, 37 and neighbouring areas.Residents had been constantly reminding the Authority that the waste generated by construction of the flyover and underpass had blocked the main drain of sector 37 as well as those in neighbouring areas. Former Noida CEO in dock : Former Noida CEO Neera Yadav and her deputy Rajiv Kumar, facing criminal trial in land scam cases, have been directed by a special CBI court to remain present during their trial. CBI judge Shyam Lal yesterday directed the duo, who were earlier granted exemption from personal appearance, to appear in court on every hearing from now. The judge observed that their absence was adversely affecting court proceedings. The next date of hearing is January 30. Yadav, also the former UP chief secretary, had alloted plots to her deputy Kumar, an IAS officer, and her two daughters during her chairmanship of the Noida Development Authority. Sealing by Noida Authority : The Noida Authority has issued a public notice warning commercial establishments running from residential areas — including banks and nursing homes — to immediately stop activities, and plans to seal such properties from Friday. "We will begin a sealing drive from Friday. Roughly, 104banks' branches, 60 nursing homes, and 50,000 other establishments, including more than 250 showrooms, will face action. ATMs will remain unaffected. Some units began shifting on their own on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has already summoned the authority CEO once. Noida Authority Scheme for Noida Banks : The Noida Authority has finalized a scheme to facilitate shifting of banks operating from residential plots to commercial ones to meet the Supreme Court order of December 5.The Authority has identified 74 commercial plots that can host the displaced bank branches.According to the Noida Authority CEO, Capt SK Dwivedi, the scheme based on a commercial bidding format will remain open for applications for a week beginning Thursday and will be subsequently allotted to the eligible branches within the timeline given by the court. "The plots are of varied sizes ranging between 82 and 450 sqm. We are offering only those plots identified as commercial in the Master Plan," he said.In Noida Extension Race- NCRPB hurdle : With construction activities in Noida Extension still in limbo, homebuyers on Wednesday filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court to support the review petition filed by the Greater Noida Authority on the October 21 verdict. The hearing is likely to come up on February 7 when the three-judge bench addressing cases related to land acquisition hears more cases filed by farmers from villages in Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway.The Noida Extension Flat Buyers' Welfare Association (NEFBWA) has supported the contention of the Greater Noida Authority that since there has been an inordinate delay in getting clearance of the Master Plan 2021 from the NCR Planning Board, construction of houses should be allowed to resume in Noida Extension so that homebuyers get possession of their flats in time.2.
